 Whole School Level

Departmental Level

  • Most departments recorded their best ever results

  • Outstanding Key Stage 3 results in English, Maths and Science

  • 100% success at Level 6 and above in Key Stage 3 ICT accreditation

  • 100% success at A* /B grade in fast track Irish at the end of Year 8 and Year 9

  • 100% success in COPE Levels 2 and 3

  • Best ever GCSE Drama results with 100%   achieving A*-C and  58% achieving A*-A

  • 100% A grade performances in fast track Year 10 Drama

  • 100% success at A-C in Post-16 A Level and BTEC Dance, Drama and Media    Studies

Across the School

  • A successful 3-day Area Based Inspection in March 2009

  • New Literacy and Numeracy Policy

  • An innovative, detailed, on-line Pupil Voice Survey     

  • Assessment for Learning promoted to support   pupil attainment

  • Increased evidence of five Home Learning Tasks in pupils’ diaries on a daily basis

  • An innovative connected curriculum delivered in Year 8, supported by immersion days on “Your Health is Your Wealth” and “Developing Thinkinng Skills and  Personal Capabilities”

  • Innovative Year 9 Curriculum Map developed, in line with all elements of the Revised Curriculum

Provision

  • A Level Psychology partnership with St Mary’s Grammar School, facilitated by collaborative timetabling provision

  • Received City & Guilds Affiliation

  • Introduction of increased work experience opportunities on the Post-16 NVQ courses

  • Revision classes and coursework clinics at lunchtime and after school in all departments

  • Introduction of the following new courses:

    - BTEC National Award in Performing Arts (Acting and Dance)

    - OCR National Certificate in Leisure and Recreation

    - BTEC First Diploma in Media

    - Occupational Studies:Digital Technology; Retail; Sport and Leisure; Carpentry; Electronics

EXCELLENCE IN ALL AREAS

Whole School

  • High quality ALC Induction Lessons on Values, Behaviour for Learning, Learning and Assessment Calendars and new Cycle Ahead Models

  • New pupil mentoring programmes

  • Improved pupil tracking at Key Stage 4 using  Yellis and at Post-16 using A Level Performance System (ALPs)

  • Strong business/employer links with 3 major employers: Bombardier, White Mountain  Quarries and Calvert Technology

  • A pilot Media Literacy Programme in Years 9 and 10

  • Installation of vending machines (Healthy   Eating) and closure of Tuck Shop

Sharing Excellence

  • Outstanding Gala Night in Grand Opera House in November 2008

  • Highly successful Orchestral Concert in March 2009

  • Consultation with all stakeholders on the new uniform

  • Hosted a variety of overseas visitors

  • Carrickfergus Festival winners in Year 8

  • Year 10 Enrichment Fast Track GCSE Drama class placed First at Carrickfergus Festival
