 House System

St Louise’s has a House System with the school divided into five houses, one for each year from year 8 to year 12. During the academic year 2004-05 the Houses were assigned as follows:

As you can see, each House has its own House Colour and House Motto. Each House also has its own feast day. These are: Lourdes: 11th February; Immaculata: 8th December; Loreto: 11th December; Notre Dame: 1st May;Fatima: 13th October.

YEARS 8 AND 9

In years 8 and 9, each form class has a House Book. This book is the responsibility of the class leader.  The leader carries the book to each subject class and invites the teacher to give merit marks before leaving the book on the teacher’s desk.

The form teachers of each class have certain discretion with regard to the merit award system. Form teachers may award up to 10 personal merit marks each week for pupil co-operation and high standard of homework.  They may also award up to up to 10 class merit marks each week to acknowledge good performance or conduct by the class as a whole.

Each subject teacher may also award up to ten personal merits each week to each of his or her subject classes. These merit marks are used eachweek to celebrate or recognise good classwork, homework, co-operativeor positive behaviour demonstrated during the week. Subject teachers may also award ten merit marks to the whole class for effort,co-operation, reliability and so on.

Personal merit marks are added up by the class leader and recorded at the back of the merit book against the pupil’s name. This is done at the weekly Prefects and Leaders Meeting. The record is used to award Pupil of the Month Certificates and medals at Assembly. The class which receives most merit marks has the honour of accepting the House Award on Junior Prize Day.

YEARS 10, 11 AND 12

In years 10, 11 and 12 the system is different.  There is a monthly nomination book. Towards the end of each month the nomination book is circulated by the class leaders to form teachers and subject teachers. Subject teachers have the opportunity to nominate apupil or pupils who have shown consistent good classwork or homework,co-operation and good behaviour or who have shown improvement over the period of a month. The pupil who gains the most nominations in each class is presented with a Student of the Month certificate and a medal at Assembly.
