St. Louise's 50th Anniversary Celebrations

In 2008 St. Louise's College celebrated its 50th year in education and to commemorate the occasion many different events were held both inside and outside the school with help from both current and past pupils and staff.

"Take a trip down memory lane......."

Between Thursday 24th April and Saturday 26th April 2008 there was a photographic Exhibition entitled "Take a trip down memory lane......." held in the school to commemorate the 50 years of Excellence the College celebrated. This was made possible after a collection of memorabilia from within the college and from past members of the college was donated for the exhibition.

The programme began with a short concert in which Sister Evelyne was treated to a feast of traditional Irish music, Irish dancing and singing.  Several of our budding linguists addressed her in Irish and French as well as English.  She then prayed in our Oratory before meeting staff and pupils in the Library for a cup of coffee. Each person felt privileged to spend time in her company. Sister Evelyne also presented each person with a medal of Saint Louise. After spending time appreciating the beauty of our batik, entitled ‘Saint Louise deMarillac, Opening Doors’, Sister Evelyne and her party enjoyeda whirlwind tour of the school ending in the Junior School where in her own words, ‘it all began in 1958’.  Sister Anna then took Sister Evelyne on a short tour of the area visiting landmarks associated withthe Daughters of Charity and Saint Louise’s.

"A Day To Remember For Ever" Friday 14 March 2008

On Friday the 14th March, everyone associated with Saint Louise's enjoyed a day which they will never forget.  On this day we celebrated ourGolden Jubilee in style.  Even the sun came out after a cold, wetweek.  The day was chosen specially because the following day, Saturdaywas the feast day of our patron saint, Saint Louise de Marillac

It was with a sense of great pride that we welcomed Saint Louise’sfifty-fifth successor, Sister Evelyne Franc, Superioress General of theDaughters of Charity to our College. She had arrived from Paris the previous evening on only her second visit to Ireland.  Sister Evelyne was accompanied by Sister Margaret from Paris, Sister Bernadette fromthe Board of Governors, Sister Rosaleen our former Principal, Sister Nuala our former Vice Principal and Sister Anna our colleague.  From the moment Sister Evelyne arrived in our school we were keenly aware ofbeing in the company of a great woman who exuded warmth, joy, humility and holiness.
